UUMC Updates 05-13-2020
Greetings UUMC Family & Friends
Here are your updates from your family at University UMC for Wednesday, May 13th, 2020
What does Reopening Look Like @ UUMC
Everyday we are getting new and updated information as to what re-opening our communities will look like. We want our church family to know that at UUMC we too are working on what “reopening” the church looks like. Several members of our church staff & laity leadership have been looking into a phased re-opening procedure for when the time is right.
We want to make YOU, the church body, aware that as a member of the NM Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, University UMC is committed to following all guidance provided to us by the Bishop and leadership at the NM Annual Conference office. Also, as a Non-profit entity in the state of New Mexico, we will follow all New Mexico state health & executive orders. Of course, we also will be taking into consideration all guidance provided to us from federal & national sources such as the CDC.
That all being said, over the coming weeks as we are able to allow more activity to happen outside and inside the walls of the church you may notice some changes.
You will notice if you come to the church office during the week that we have hand sanitizer and masks available at the office entrance of the building. This is for the safety of everyone. You will not be permitted to enter the building without a mask. If you do not wish to wear a mask, you may be asked to leave.
You will also notice that the meeting spaces have been rearranged. This is to allow for the maximum amount of people while following all social distancing guidelines. As small groups are allowed to resume we ask that you leave the rooms as they are. Groups that choose to meet at the church will have to meet in whatever space is deemed appropriate by the UUMC staff.
We hope you all will understand that this will not be a quick or simple process as the transitions from phase to phase will take time. Guidance we are receiving currently estimates that these transitions may take 2 weeks or more. We also ask that you keep in mind that the church leadership and staff are doing their best to make decisions that are right for our community here at University UMC and this may not look the same as what the church down the street or on the other side of town is doing.
Ultimately, we ask for grace in the coming weeks and months as the church leadership make the difficult decisions that must be made as to when and how this church, University UMC, is able to congregate safely as a church body once again. Please keep our church leadership, the staff, and all those in leadership around our community in your prayers.

Stimulus Check Challenge
2020 Stimulus checks are coming and they are badly needed by many people to keep from falling between the cracks. However, many of us are blessed to not need the extra funds, and would prefer rather to share it for the building of the kingdom and the Good News of Jesus Christ. Here are a couple of examples of ways you can assign your stimulus money if you do not have an immediate need and would prefer to pay it forward:
• Immigrant Relief Fund at El Calvario UMC
• Scholarships at Bright Beginnings Learning Center
• In the Neighborhood Fund at University UMC
• COVID-19 Response Fund through UMCOR
